Who am I?
Léo Poncet, originally from Bourg-En-Bresse in Ain.
I decided to create GénéaLéo in order to offer my skills as a professional genealogist for research in Belgium, France, and Italy. Graduating in 2024 from E.A.G. (European Academy of Genealogy), I offer my services to individuals wishing to discover their family history, to carry out a biography on an ancestor, to document the history of a place, or to interpret DNA test results.
I also offer my services to notaries to conduct research on estates in order to identify one or more heirs.

What does genealogy mean to me?
Above all a passion, genealogy revolves around time, discovery, and travel.
When one embarks on genealogy, a true journey through time and space is promised to us. Indeed, the story of our ancestors is closely linked to the history of the country and its regions. When wars, famines, epidemics, and political conflicts affected the living conditions of our ancestors, they migrated to adapt and survive. Economic and social opportunities are also an important factor in migration in a world that has industrialised over time.
The revelations that arise from research into our family can be as surprising as they are fascinating, which is why I wish to accompany clients on this journey and shed light on the life stories of those who came before them.

The 7 points that led me to genealogy:
- The journey and culture: I lived for several years in Asia, and travel is an aspect that I find in this passion: immersion in different cultures, with their national and local specificities.
- The history and its transformations: I enjoy discovering how peoples have managed to navigate through the ages and adapt to different transitions.
- Humanity and encounter: whether in archives or in interaction with enthusiasts, this discipline offers unforgettable opportunities for sharing.
- Research and discovery: an exciting exploration that connects us to our history through fascinating revelations.
- Heritage and conservation: retracing and then transmitting the memory of the past by establishing connections between generations.
- Emotions: each genealogical exploration resembles an investigation, a historical puzzle where doubts and the satisfaction of having unraveled mysteries intersect.
